Lígia Batista is the executive director of Instituto Marielle Franco. She has a degree in Law and is a Master’s student in Public Policy and Human Rights, producing reflections on the situation of democracy and the challenges for the political representation of Black women in Brazil. Over the last 10 years, Batista has been working in international organizations devoted to the defense of human rights and the promotion of racial and gender justice in Brazil and Latin America. She is also a fellow of the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent (2015-2024).
