Indigenous Women, belonging to various Indigenous communities across the globe, are an invaluable cultural asset and have made significant contributions to society. However, they continue to experience marginalization and discrimination based on their gender and ethnicity, which is reflected in their high rates of poverty, violence, and health disparities. Unfortunately, Indigenous women-led organizations are significantly underfunded compared to mainstream organizations, which limits their ability to tackle the unique challenges their communities face.

IFIP recognizes the importance of addressing the lived realities and challenges faced by Indigenous Women (IW) and their organizations in relation to funding situation. IFIP believes that this side event is an opportunity to bring together funders and IW’s organizations to collectively identify gaps and challenges and discuss the way forward. The event will contribute to the Women Deliver Conference’s objectives by empowering the feminist movement, reframing who leads, and creating space for inclusive and co-created solutions on gender equality.

The side event is co-hosted by International Funders for Indigenous Peoples (IFIP), FIMI) in collaboration with FJS, Equality Fund, Mama Cash, and AIWO.

In conversation with feminist organizations and girl leaders, we will examine the intersections of colonialism and patriarchy, and center feminist perspectives in decolonizing how and what we know. We will explore how research and knowledge generation can become sites of accompaniment, co-liberation, and transformation. We will share strategies for shifting power and promoting gender equality, social justice and equitable partnerships. Event attendees will contribute their own experiences, questions, knowledge and vision via a virtual platform. Organized by Save the Children
