Jo Bourne is Chief Technical Officer at the Global Partnership for Education, where she leads education specialists and draws on expertise across the broader partnership to drive quality policy, strategy and program development as well as rigorous monitoring and evaluation of GPE-supported programs._x000D_
Her work has concentrated on collaborating with national governments to develop, implement and monitor ambitious education strategies, while working with development partners to put equity and learning at the heart of education plans, finance education strategies, and strengthen accountability for results._x000D_
Her experience includes senior positions in the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID) and UNICEF._x000D_

Harmful gender norms and stereotypes not only hamper gender equality but also fuel adverse education outcomes. In so doing, the discussion will focus on gender stereotypes in schools and how utilizing education can help children and young people grow into equal, just and non-violent citizens, while also advancing the agenda on gender equality in, to and through education systems and schools to achieve gender-transformative education. Discussions will bridge the gap between education and gender communities and link conversations with justice, systems and accountability to advance the global, national, local, school-level and youth centered efforts to address gender norms and end stereotypes in schools.
