Thuli Makama is an environmental and human rights lawyer from Swaziland who is currently working as Africa Director and Global South Advisor at Oil Change International. She has dedicated decades to supporting movements and local communities across Africa resisting the expansion of the fossil fuel industry and policies that worsen the climate crisis, thus delaying the continent’s just transition to a renewable energy future that prioritizes people over profits. Thuli Makama was named one of the winners of the most prestigious environmental award, The Goldman Prize in 2010 in recognition of her environmental and human rights work in Swaziland.
