The Green Protector

Ineza is a Rwandan climate negotiator, researcher, and ecofeminist who champions the empowerment of women, girls, and frontline communities as a means to achieving global climate justice. She is the Co-Founder and Global Coordinator of the Loss and Damage Youth Coalition, a global coalition of 600+ youth from 60+ countries urging governments and the private sector to take concrete action to address climate related loss and damage. She is also the Founder of The Green Protector, a Rwandan NGO aiming to increase youth participation in environmental protection.

Yet a challenge to localization is the limited engagement of local and national actors in setting the agenda and priorities. Actors based in the Global North continue to set priorities. Women’s rights organizations have also experienced limited engagement. We must examine how these organizations, based in their communities, feature in localization – and what the agenda means for girls, women, and other marginalized populations. The session will present the context and start mapping pathways toward inclusive localization plans.
