AWDF and the Stephen Lewis Foundation will join African feminist movement partners to launch the “Towards a Transformative Feminist Approach to Trauma in Africa: Perspectives from Practice” toolkit. This launch is part of sustained efforts to resource, co-create and amplify the innovations, leadership and contribution of African feminist and WROs in advancing solutions to critical issues affecting most marginalised groups in the movement. The launch is an opportunity to showcase feminist tools, approaches and exchange perspectives on trauma redress in Africa. Funders and feminist movement voices reflect on reimagining decolonial, innovative and radical ways to resource trauma redress on the continent.

In the last decade, multilateral development agencies have begun recognizing how essential local organizations are to effective humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding work. Yet a challenge to localization is the limited engagement of local and national actors in setting the agenda and priorities. Actors based in the Global North continue to set priorities. Women’s rights organizations have also experienced limited engagement. We must examine how these organizations, based in their communities, feature in localization – and what the agenda means for girls, women, and other marginalized populations. The session will present the context and start mapping pathways toward inclusive localization plans.
