Clefts are among the most common birth differences globally. Without comprehensive treatment, clefts can significantly impact an individual’s physical and mental health, economic stability, and future opportunities, challenges which are often only compounded for women and girls.

This inequality is reflected in the global surgical workforce, where women frequently encounter significant barriers. Achieving health for all and advancing gender equality will require innovation and collaboration – and empowering women and girls as patients, as providers, and as leaders.

This dynamic session will convene health workers, policymakers, advocates, and patients themselves to share their lived experiences and how they’re redefining the space for women and surgical care throughout Africa.
