Dr Noorjehan Safia Niaz is the Co-Founder of the Indian Muslim Women’s Movement (BMMA) and is also a researcher, writer, trainer and facilitator. She has decades of experience campaigning and advocating for reforms of the Muslim family law and practices in India. Through BMMA’s advocacy efforts, an Act was passed in 2019 against triple divorce and they are currently awaiting a Supreme Court judgment against polygamy and halala. Dr Noorjehan has been advocating for the comprehensive codification of an egalitarian Muslim family law in India. She is an Ashoka and Aspire Fellow and has obtained her Ph.D. in Sociology.
