Claire Mathonsi is CARE USA’s Associate Vice President for Gender Justice. She has over 20 years of experience in gender transformation and integration for development, program delivery, influencing and advocacy at various levels and across a range of programmatic areas including SRHR, economic empowerment and GBV. She previously worked as the Deputy Executive Director at the Advocacy Accelerator (AAC) incubated at AMREF Health Arica. She’s a founding member of the Southern Feminist Futures and serves on the board of several African feminist organizations including Akina Mama wa Africa (Uganda), Make Every Woman Count (Guinea) and Access Chapter 2 (South Africa).

This session explores why humanitarianism, specifically a feminist humanitarian approach, must be integrated into feminist foreign policy so that such critical opportunities are not missed. Members of the Feminist Humanitarian Network and representatives of donor governments will discuss how existing feminist foreign policies have been experienced by women-led and feminist organizations in the Global South, and how feminist principles and a feminist humanitarian approach can be better incorporated into the feminist foreign policy agenda.
