Mariam Chande is the founder and Executive Director of Utetezi Rural Africa a LBQI persons rural organization based in Kenya. They have worked with the LBQI , sexual and reproductive health and rights at the grassroots movement for the past 8 years organizing at the intersection of religion, gender, and sexuality. They are activist and feminists continuously supporting spaces for young queer people. Mariam currently seats on the community advisory board of The Initiative for Equality and Non-Discrimination (INEND). They believe that rural inclusion is key to realizing sustainable development.
