A human rights lawyer from Costa Rica, Catalina was the first United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and is the former Costa Rican Ambassador to the UN in Geneva. She has focused her work on the multilateral system and successfully led efforts towards the adoption by the UN Secretary General of the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy, as well as the process within the Human Rights Council towards the recognition of the Right to a Healthy Environment. Born with Spina Bifida, Catalina is a proud disabled woman and the mother of three daughters.
